Default 2009 XLT Adding Fog Lights

I have a 2009 XLT with the 4.0L engine and it did not come with the factory fog lights installed. I have since added the lights, relay, fuse and the proper head light switch, the wiring harness was already in place. The lights will not come on. I went by a local Ford dealer today and they told me that there is no programming involved, if I have everything in place they should work. I have verified that the switch is good. I do not want to take it to the dealer and spend who knows how much. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have the wiring from switch all the way to the dist box?

Most of the time it is missing that part of the wiring harness.

From a wiring diagram I obtained, it looks like pin number 9 on the head light switch, gray/violet. I checked the that wire on back of the switch and it goes hot when I pull the fog light switch to on. Since it is in the wiring bundle I assumed it went out to the relay.

Did you verify that there are wires under the relay location?

I found another thread;
2009 XLT Fog Lights
where someone described the exact same problem. It turns out that there was a wiring issue in the SJB that the dealer had to correct. I'm not going to spend $100 or more to get them working if that's what it takes.

Well, after tracing the wires, as others have suggested, I discovered that the wire running from the BJB relay to the SJB was not there. Actually, there is a brown wire on pin 2 of the relay, and you would assume it goes on to the SJB but when I pulled the connector on the SJB it was no where to be found, so who knows where it leads to. The gray/violet wire that runs between the SJB and the head light switch is there. So after looking at the wiring diagram of the fog light circuit and reading about the fog light mod located here:

http://www.therangerstation.com/Maga...glight_mod.htm

I went ahead and wired mine up as per the mod instructions and it works perfect. When you pull the fog light switch to the on position, the 12v energizes the relay that you install, which in turn sends a ground to pin 2 on the fog light relay in the BJB which energizes and the fog lights come on. I bought the relay, wire and connectors at Pep Boys for less than $20. It took me less than an hour to do everything. The fog lights will now stay on even with the high beams.

I hope this helps anyone else who wants to add the fog lights themselves.

Can you post a copy of the wiring diagram that you used? And is that mod that you linked required to get the fog lights to work?
