1986 2.3 Ranger misfiring issues
My 2.3l Ranger has been going through a lot of ignition issues.
The truck starts just fine & idols correctly. After 30~ seconds it will stall out, in park.
When driving it just spits, sputters, and backfires as I try to accelerate. I have to go about 75 percent throttle to get anywhere. In the higher rpm's it accelerates just fine and feels 100%. Even when I let off the gas and coast when going anywhere from 35-60 you can still feel it not running smoothly.
I've gone through 5 TFI (thick film ignition) modules, the one's mounted on the distributor. So that has me thinking its ignition based problem.
Parts I've replaced in the past month:
TFI Module
Plugs & wires
Distributor
Distributor Cap
Distributor Rotor
Ignition Coil
I have no clue what could be causing the TFI modules to go bad. I haven't touched any wiring to the vehicle so I don't think a short could be causing it. I haven't checked fuel pressure yet as I have no reason to think fuel it is the problem (Both fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulator, and filter were replaced a year ago. Roughly 10,000 miles on them)
Any other thoughts, troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
-Billy
