Default Turn Signals Malfunction 1995 Ranger

Been poking around this site for awhile, but this is my first time posting.

I have a '95 Ranger 2.3L. I'm having issues with the turn signals. The left turn signal doesn't work at all, however the right turn signal works fine. The hazards do not work either, but when the hazard button is activated the right green arrow on the instrument panel lights up. Also, the instrument cluster lights do not illuminate either. I replaced the multi-function turn signal switch twice and the symptoms still remain. All of the fuses and bulbs are good and I disconnected and cleaned the ground wire on the drivers side inner fender located between the battery and the starter solenoid. I also disconnected and cleaned the ground wire located near the battery and radiator support. Using a volt meter I checked the voltage at the #21 and #22 fuse and both had 12v. I did notice there was a splice in the wires under the rear bumper which once had a trailer light connector attached, but it has since been removed. The headlights, taillights and brake lights function properly, so my issue probably lies within the left turn signal, hazards and/or instrument panel. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone have the wiring schematic?

How was the old trailer wiring removed. Wires left loose? If so that could easily be your problem.

I would remove all non-factory wiring and tape up the splice area.

That wiring was cut out and I taped up the exposed wires. I did see what appeared to be a fusible link or something that resembles one near the area where the trailer light wires were removed from. It was a little torn up, so I couldn't tell what it was exactly, but I taped it up. Is it possible that there is a distribution wire and/or fusible link near the hole in the rear bumper where that wire loom feeds through?

Back probe the Light green/ White stripe wire on the back of the turn signal switch (it will be the weird shape connector not the square one).

See if you get 12 volts when the LEFT turn signal is on.

Also, correct this if I'm wrong.

Front Left turn signal: INOP
Rear Left turn signal: INOP
LEFT Turn indicator: INOP
LEFT Hazard Signal: INOP

Front Right Turn signal: Working
Rear Right Turn signal: working
Right turn indicator: working
Right Hazard Signal: Working?

We will get to the instrument cluster lights after we get this solved.

The only correction on your list I need to correct is at the Right Hazard Signal. If I activate the Right Turn Signal with the multi-function switch, everything works (dash RH turn indicator, Front Right Light & Rear Right Light), however when I push down on the hazards, none of the lights flash, but the RH turn indicator on the dash lights up and stays illuminated.

I will have to confirm 12v at the Light Green/White Stripe wire from the switch tomorrow, because I'm away from the truck at the moment. I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

By chance do you have the turn signal/hazard wiring diagram for that truck? I have been searching around, but cannot locate the proper diagram. It is a 1995 Ranger without a factory trailer light connector. Several of the diagrams I have found seem to indicate that the Brake/Tail/Turn Signals are the same bulb, however it's a stand-alone turn signal bulb in the rear. Thanks again.

The Light Green/White Stripe wire on the back of the connector gets 12v.

Ok so the output to the left turn signals is getting power. Sounds like a down stream issue.

I think you have a short or open circuit down stream.

Not a ground, I don't think. Some of the right and left turn signals share the same ground.

Need to post pictures of these foreign wires.

Did the picture above not post? Let me try again.

Ford puts everything in split loom so if it's not in the conduit then it is probably not factory.

As far as fusible link, fusible link is a thin wire in thick insulation. Pulls to many amps the wire breaks/melts but nothing gets burned up outside of the wire due to the thick insulation.

I'm tracking both of your posts here and on the other forum and you said the voltage is constant.

Flashers flash fast if there is no load, flash regularly with a bulb load, so if its solid my guess would be a straight up short (high load).

Again you are gonna have to trace down all of these foreign wires and remove them if they are not needed. If the ends down have terminals in a connector get rid of them. Anything heat shrunk, butt spliced, or quick spliced get rid of them.

At one time I think they were in the split loom. I'll check it out. Got some diagrams to ref now.

Hi- I'm late to the party, but my 1995 Ranger 2.3 has exactly the same symptoms, and I just wondered if you ever found the problem?
