Unhappy 1996 Ford Ranger Alarm/Theft System Problems

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I am having trouble with the security system on my 1996 Ford Ranger 4CYL XLT. The security system is activated, but it is faulty. Here's my situation:

1. I unlock the truck using the keyless remote (or using the key, doesn't matter).
2. I put the key in the ignition and attempt to start the truck
3. The interior lights start flashing, and the theft light is on, while the truck does not even make an attempt to turnover
4. I take the key out and continue to press the unlock button on the driver door, and on the keyless remote. Sometimes I have to open the door and shut it and then press the unlock bottoms more.
5. I eventually get passed the security system by turning the key immediately after pressing the unlock buttons.

My preferred option would be to fix this issue somehow and still keep the security system enabled. I heard from other threads that I can ground the green/purple wire, but I prefer not to disarm the vehicle completely. Is there anything I should be checking to fix this issue? Is there a way to fix this issue without disarming the system completely? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to suggestions.

-Chris

I have a 97 and it has no such thing.. The theft light is for the chipped key to start it in the newer trucks. It's called pats system. Take the key and go to the driver door and manually unlock the door. I know that's normally how to turn off a factory alarm.

What color is the theft light? My bet is it's an aftermarket system that's malfunctioned

Do you have a FOB like this?

These systems were Port installed or dealer installed options. (like running boards, floor mats, etc). Old 1996 mustang had one installed.

If you have that FOB then you probably have a push button in the left side kick panel as was the standard position when installing the system. If the button is there, hold the button while turning the key.

The theft light is Red. I am taking it to a Ford dealership this weekend to have them advise me on if it is aftermarket or stock. My truck shouldn't have PATS, as that started for Ranger in later years.

My remote is this one:
