Default ignition coil help!!!

can anyone tell me where the coil is on a 1997 ranger 2.3? and how to install a tachometer? and do i need a special tach for this truck cause some people said a regular one wont work . i think i know where the coil is and if it is it i cant find the negative side of it can anyone help?
97 ranger
2wd 2.3L
5 speed manual tranny

Just like any pick up truck there is always a tach wire that runs to your gauges, you just got to figure out wich one of them is it, make sure though your tach is not a autometer from autozone, they will not work on 4 or 6 cylinders with out being sent of to be calibrated, so i was told once by them when i called autometer, but there are some on the market that you can dial into diffrent cylinder setting, but if i remeber correctly, its the green wire on the main plug on the back of your cluster, make sure u make a good clean spllice and make sure that your 12v hot wire on tach is fuse linked to prevent any shorts...hope this advise helps, let me know how it works out for yah....
