Battery Light -Ideas?
My battery light came on while I was driving. I wasn't too concerned so I continued on about my day as usual, no starting issues, flickering, ete.
I decided to check the battery and alternator just in case. The battery was reading the proper voltage, and the alternator is charging the battery at the proper rate. Just for good measure I even had the guy at auto zone use their beefed up voltmeter (multi-meter? Idk) and everything read fine as well. The light periodically comes back but not in any specific conditions. I checked the connection to the battery, everything is tight as a whistle. I suspect its some type of issue with the instrument panel. Though I believe the battery light only relies on a circuit to detect issues, rather than a more advanced method. Ideas?

Re: Battery Light -Ideas?
Here is a link to a description on how the charging system works as well as diagnostic procedures. Reading through it may give you some ideas.

Re: Battery Light -Ideas?
Thanks, this is exactly what I needed. I'll post the results once I get around to testing it, for future reference.

Re: Battery Light -Ideas?
Would this happen to have happened at higher RPMs? If so that's an alternator with the internal brushes losing contact, thus dropping the voltage suddenly.

^^^ check for the light at different RPMs. The alternator test machines at the parts stores only run at one speed and might not detect an alternative with a bad voltage regulator. Also watch the voltage meter on your dash when the light comes on

It was at low speed with little to no acceleration.
