Brake Light Issues, Possible Multifunction Switch Problem??
Hi all - newbie to this forum here.
I have a '99 Ford Ranger XLT V6 3.0L, and I'm hoping somebody here can get me pointed in the right direction with some electrical issues I'm having.
My hazard lights and tail lights are functioning properly, but when I depress the brake pedal, my passenger side brake light will not illuminate. I've replaced the bulb, checked the filament which looks fine, and replaced the tail light socket.
I'm not sure if this is related to the other issue I've been having, which is that when I turn on my right turn signal with the brake pedal depressed, the signal stays on for as long as my foot is on the brake pedal, and smoke begins coming out of the steering column.
Based on what I've researched so far, it seems like it could be a multifunction switch, but as far as I know this was a factory recall that was fixed prior to me owning the vehicle. Do any of you folks have any idea as to what could cause this?
Thanks for the help!
-Shawn
