'06 won't turn over and radio will not turn on
I bought a 2006 4.0 and it needed some work but runs well. The dashboard dimmer lights were blown out, the gear shift indicator was broken (appeared to always be in 1st gear), dome light wouldn't engage with dimmer switch and turn signal would never disengage after turning.
So i took everything apart and was able to fix everything i needed to fix, everything works but the radio and it won't turn over. It was fine when i started working on it. Could there be some sort of theft security option? I checked fuses and everything seems good.

I would say the PATS system but the radio turns on with a non-chipped key. There is a dimmer wire going to the 16 pin radio harness so you can check the connector on that. When the wires are messed up they can do funny stuff. Could also be the ignition switch.
In fact, if you touch a screwdriver to the #1 spot and #8 spot on the connector it will turn all the interior lights on.

Automatic, right?
Jiggle the gear selector a bit and try again. If that fails, shift into neutral (hold your foot on the brake while moving it) and try that. The system will cut off power if it sees that the transmission isn't set to park or neutral when you try to start it.

Because it's incredibly obscure and unusual. The only reason I know about it is because I'm fighting the same thing. Every now and then, my truck won't start. But if I jiggle the shifter a bit, no problem at all. First time it happened though, it threw me for a loop. I ripped out and inspected every fuse I could find, triple-checked wiring all over the place, etc.. It wasn't fun. Realizing that all that work for for naught and a simple flick of a lever was all that was needed was quite the slap to the face.

Re: '06 won't turn over and radio will not turn on
not sure the age of the battery but i've had a charger on it and it has 12V says the multi-meter. I jiggled it in park and neutral. The lady before me did have that issue with it before a lot, i think. Should i maybe look into the shifter cable? If i try to jump the starter which connector should i try? the dang thing is so hard to reach and see.

Have you looked at the ignition switch? My '88 has that issue sometimes were the ignition switch comes loose and loses contact

Re: '06 won't turn over and radio will not turn on
I will have to take a closer look at it tomorrow. When you say the ignition switch, do you mean where the key slides into and then you turn it to start the truck?

Should be a starter solenoid on the driver fender. If there is turn the key on and touch the 2 big terminals with a screw driver. Should fire

Re: '06 won't turn over and radio will not turn on
I tried jumping the starter today with no luck...looks like it may be a starter gone bad. How coincidental. If that isn't the problem i will update. I think i will order from rockauto.com seems fairest price.
