Default Cigarette lighter connection

Is there any way to make it so when I turn on the engine, power comes through the cigarette lighter connection and the power going through that connection is turned off when the engine is off? That way my GPS will turn on automatically without me having to connect the adapter. I always disconnect it when I turn off the engine. My GPS is a Magellan 1400 and it turns on by itself when the adapter is connected through the cigarette lighter connection.

I thought the cigarette lighter only worked with the ignition on and the 12v power source worked all the time. That is the way mine is anyway I believe

Cause if I want to charge my phone with the truck off I have to put it in the 12v

I would go to a auto parts store. get one of these.

Hook it to your radio switched power wire and ground.

Tuck it up behind your dash. Then run the wire for the GPS out from behind the dash, and connect to GPS.

I have my satellite radio hooked this way. Still have access to both power points and If I wanna remove the radio I just unplug the power cord from the back of the radio receiver
