Damn, wonder if you have a burnt bulb? Has your cruise worked before this issue?

If it did. I would un plug your cruise servo motor and see if your speedometer starts working. Between the washer reservoir and the blower motor. Cable on top running to throttle body.

Just hypothesizing but since your pcm sends the signal to the cluster and this module, if the cruise model cramped out and shorted the signal then it would cause a similar issue to the one you have.

The cruise hasn't worked since I've bought it, so I have no idea when the last time it worked. I've got a feeling it's that transmission speed sensor you told me about earlier. that would make a lot of sense.

----------

Now I do have one question. I have a 2000 2wd ranger sitting in the yard that I wrecked a few years back, do you think the speed sensor it has on the differential be the same as the one on my current transfer case? it was a manual though. Figured it'd be worth a shot to try before spending 60 bucks on a part that may not fix it.

Yeah look at the wiring before putting a new one on and make sure it hasn't rubbed in anything. The sensor should be on the rear of the transmission on the drivers side.

----------

We'll work on the cruise after this is fixed

excellent. I actually have the transmission sitting in a trailer in the back yard so that makes this even easier.

man you have no clue how much I appreciate all your help.

So it turns out my vss is on the rear differential, at least I'm pretty sure because I couldn't find anything anywhere on the transfer case that looked like the vss, so I went and grabbed the one off my old ranger (which presumably worked 2 years ago) and swapped mine with it, and still no speedometer working, I did go back and look at my codes and lo and behold P0500 popped up so i guess it must be something in the wiring...

Any suggestions on what to do to troubleshoot?

Look At the transmission not the transfercase.

Look for it in the rear like this picture.

You have an 01+ ranger, so it's somewhere on the trans/transfer case
