Exclamation 2005 Ford Ranger ABS problem

My ABS activates at about 90% of my stops. Most of the time it cuts my wheel to the left and I just installed new calipers so im thinking I need a new alignment. But what should I do about my ABS? My tires are different sizes. My back tires are mud grips and they are bigger and my front ones are stock, could that be the problem?

Is it 4wd? Having different size tires on a live axle setup like 01 and up ranger have is hell on your drivetrain

Your tire sizes are very likely the problem even on a 2WD truck. The ABS computer uses differences in wheel speeds to sense brake lock up and the VSS sensor in the transmission (which is reading only rear wheel speed). And, on your truck, there is ALWAYS a difference in wheel speed because of your tires. You can't run different sized tires unless you want to disable the ABS. And if your truck is 4WD you shouldn't run different sized tires period.

The other possibility is a bad wheel speed sensor--likely on one of the front wheels.

Well in my case I bought the truck with expensive back tires so I'm currently building up money for the fronts.

Thank you for this, I plan on getting new front tires soon and I'll let you know if that was the problem!

Its a 2WD I just got new front speed sensors and the problem is still occuring. If I hit my bakes to fast it activates and sometimes just for no reason no matter how smooth i make the stop. Could it be the rear sensor?

After what was correctly noted in post #3 RE different tires sizes in the front and the rear (ie, an obvious problem that will cause an ABS issue), why did you buy new front speed sensors instead of new, correct sized tires?
