Default Halo Projectors

I was looking at ordering some spyder halo led projectors both headlights and tail lights (and third tail light) for my truck and I was just wondering if I need to upgrade my alternator too? Or will the stock one be able to handle it? I'm thinking that it's not necessary to upgrade it but I just want to be sure. Thanks

I put my projectors in and I did not have to upgrade the alternator so that was nice. I wired the power for the halo ring to the parking lights, which I think is pretty standard. I think these headlights were worth every penny though, I think from now on I'll always be using projector headlights, the difference in brightness is substantial and I would recommended you upgrade to them if you have the money. All thought I only paid around $150 for mine which isn't terrible.

Go retrofit or go home. It's the only way to really appreciate HID.

swapping a few running lights here and there wont make a big enough difference in overall current draw to warrant an alternator upgrade. however above posters are totally correct in saying go for a retrofit. most aftermarket projector headlights are halogen projectors. as in they are designed to work and create a proper beam pattern with a halogen bulb, not HID.

Also, fyi, most HID kits draw less current than the average halogen bulb, (35w HID vs 55w Halogen) WHILE RUNNING. the initial start up on an HID bulb draws higher current than a halogen for a split second. this excessive current draw wont immediately damage any of the existing headlight circuits right away, but over time they can. this is why its always a good idea to wire your HIDs with a relay harness. the original headlight power and ground circuits are only used to power the control side of the relay while the headlights themselves are powered directly from the battery.

Exactly.

Here is a relay harness. http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...l#.VMPDv0fF98E

^ that harness there is specific for vehicles that shut the low beams off when the highbeams are turned on (our trucks), and vehicles that have a daytime running light that uses pulse width modulation of either the high or low beam to acheive a dim drl light (again, our trucks, at least in canada where drls are required)
