help! battery dies everyday w/ new alternator!
I just replaced the motor in my 93 ranger 2.3l with same oem motor and it runs great, except that I have to recharge/get a new battery every day. I figured it would be the alternator. I had it tested and it was only sending 12.57 volts so I warrantied it and put the new one in. Once again I had it tested and the same thing. 12.57 volts. I'm assuming it is something with the wire harness to the alternator but I'm not sure. Any hints on finding where my voltage drain is?

Some of the older Rangers use to have s fuse in the under hood box for the alt. Check that and also getting the parts from a discount auto parts is not always the best way.

There is a contradiction in the problem description that needs clarification.
a) You said you replaced you alternator because' " it was only sending 12.57 volts".
b) Any hints on finding where my voltage drain is?
So which is it, an alternator that isn't delivering adequate voltage to keep they battery charged or do you have excess drain (defined as a current draw above 50mA) on your battery when it's not running?

I have no problem letting the vehicle sit, the battery only loses charge while driving.

Bench test the alternator.

Definitely sounds like a bad alt, possibly bad contacts at the battery or grounds.
Triple check all connections & i'd get the alt swapped if its under warranty.
You should have about 12.5v at rest & about 14.5v when running.

Where you you testing the alternator voltage at? If you are testing it at the battery then you are reading batt voltage. If you look at at the pic in the last post you will see there is a 15 amp fuse in the distribution box under the hood.
