I have a 1993 Ford Ranger and the chime is yelling at me anytime that the driver's side door is open. I have replaced the lock cylinder, but not the ignition switch. Is the switch the problem? Any help is appreciated.

lights are off, keys are out. it happens every time i open the door regardless.

check your ignition, if you crank it too far back when you turn the truck off, it continues to ding even with the key out, i know this because mine does it too, just the factor of all the wear on it over the years makes it kinda loose. and im not talking about the accessory postition, im talking about a point between off and accessory. confusing i know.

Thanks guys for responding. The chime was on anytime the door was open, lights off and key out of the switch. I semi-fixed it by unplugging the wire that goes from ground to the switch, which is located under the steering column. The wire is gray and is very hard to see and is almost under a plastic tube going into an object that looks like a large pill capsule. I just un-plugged the wire. Now the only time the chime comes on is when the headlights are on and the door is open. At least I kept my sanity. Now all I have to worry about is locking the door with the key in the ignition, but I solved that problem by the use of a hidden key on the truck. By the way, the steering wheel ring uses Phillips screws, and use a 9/32 socket to remove the metal stamping that holds the hood release.
