Default Fog Lights do not work (was "missing fog lights" thread)

I posted earlier that my '02 Ranger was missing its fog lights. Had holes in front and switch on dash that lights up only on low beam, just needed lights, I thought.

I followed the forum recommendation, purchased after market lights, and plugged them in. No power to the wires. I looked in the manual for the the fuse and relay locations (under hood panel #31 and it says Fog Lamps are 48A and Fog Lamp Relay is 48B). There is no fuse present in location #31 and there are no female terminals to accept a fuse in #31. Also the panel has a relay-looking location for 48A and 48B but there are no terminal in those slots for a relay to plug into. Is my downloaded manual incorrect on the location of the relays and fuses.

Got in touch with former owner who said he took the fog lights out when he replace the cracked front valance and just never got around to putting the lights back in. Said they worked.

Are both 48A and B supposed to be relays?
Are 48A and B the right relay locations for fog lights?
Why would my truck have a fog light switch on the dash, holes for them in the front bumper, wires, but not have plugs in the fuse panel to accept a relay?

Nobody out there has an '02 ranger with fog lights that can look in the under hood fuse panel and see if the two relay sockets closest to the windshield are vacant?

Pretty Please?

Could have been added aftermarket. The thunderbolt pieces were sold as a kit for a while on Hillbank i have a few of them on my truck so it could have been converted and used an aftermarket fog kit a lot of people do that and just wire it to the factory switch. My truck had the harness for the switch tucked behind the dash as well as the pigtails but no wiring in between and blanks in the fuse block id try to trace the wiring back and see where it goes.

Maybe this will be helpful. You can look up the complete wiring diagram for YOUR specific truck. Best of all, it's completely free!

Go to www.bbbind.com .

Select TSB Database, then Wiring Diagrams. Enter your truck info. From there you can choose what Category you need. It's all there, including wire colors to help you trace problems.

Go here and run the VIN (look in "vehicle"):

http://www.etis.ford.com/home.do

See if the vehicle is what the former owner claims it is.

Thanks. The VIN lookup clearly states it did not come with fog lights. They would have been an aftermarket add-on. It will be a royal PITA to try to find the fuse and relay position of that. I may just have to rewire my own from the switch.

I believe all factory thunderbolts came with fog lights since the valance was made for them i can't see them leaving the holes empty. Id say grab an aftermarket kit and put it on mine was less than $100.

Some trucks came fully pre-wired, some partially pre-wired & some not pre-wired for fogs at all.
Sounds like he somehow modded the stock wiring to run his lights, not sure if he did the work to re-wire the factory wiring or how he did it.

If you can't get the lights working with what you have now, I do a conversion kit that allows guys/gals with non-fog rangers to use an oem fog switch in the radio bezel to control their fog lights, backup lights, or pretty much any 12v light or accessory.
My kits bypass the factory wiring so there's no need to dig around & try to "make it work".

Update on Thunderbolt edition fog lights. I traced the wire from the fog lights back and found an empty relay plug under the battery. I added a relay and voila, fog light work now. Thank you all for helping me figure it out.
