I did notice there was no other fuse and I wonder the same thing. However I still doubt it disables the SRS and that is probably intentional on ford's part.

If the battery light comes on, on the dash, its the alternator failure signal. Mine did it,
and when I googled it thats hwa it said. Replaced it, and its great.

The indicator is an LED which means current can only flow one direction through it. If the key is on but the alternator is not spinning, current will flow from the battery, through the fuse, through the indicator lamp and out to ground through the alternator. This causes the LED to light up. This will only happen if the key is on and the alternator is not trying to generate power... either because its not spinning (belt broke or engine not running) or its just toast.

When the key is on and the alternator spinning and working properly, no current will flow through that circuit because it no longer has a path to ground (since the alternator is now generating power rather than conducting to ground). No current flow = no indicator lamp.

The alternators some field current to BEGIN generating power and that current flowing through the fuse and indicator light is what it uses. So if the fuse for that circuit is popped, the alternator can not begin generating power due to the lack of field current on startup. It will also prevent the indicator lamp from working. And subsequently the air bag light is on that circuit and won't work either.

AH HA! It just hit me all of a sudden!!

Pulling that fuse absolutely without a doubt does NOT disable the airbags.

The entire SRS system is armed and functioning whether the key is on or not. That indicator light circuit on fuse #15 only has power when the ignition is on. Therefore, if the circuit being powered down disabled the SRS system, then the SRS system would not work with the key off.

To be honest, I do not know where the SRS system's main power comes from but I suspect they made it that way on purpose so it can't be messed with. It is probably internal to the SRS controller or its on the same circuit as the rest of the computer system.

I took my instrument cluster out to work on the odometer... Now battery isn't charging. If I read and infer correctly the alternator field isn't getting any juice because the indicator bulb is missing?

There is the order at which the wires are hooked up to the alternator given on ehow.com it says that you have to install the wires to the alternator in the opposite order than the order that they were removed. Maybe that can help. Just had alternator replaced two weeks ago and have not had further problems.
