Better fuel mileage from faster engine warm-ups, less drag on engine (i.e. more power), that's all I can think of.

I urge you great caution. The one time the fan fails to turn on will be the near death of your engine. Mine didn't turn on once for no apparent reason. It was while I was parked blocking the road at a snapped utility pole. Lights and radios on so the engine was idling to keep everything powered. I heard a funny noise coming from the engine (spark knock) and then poof. In the process, it blew a hole in the side of my radiator. Overheated the engine so bad that it will never recover. If it overheats again, it will probably be the death of it.

So be careful.

i got the fans from the local part store the cost was around 150 for both fans and the harness, i also got the wiring harness for the dual fans w/ a/c. the improvements are better gas mileage because the fan is no longer dragging the engine down, it also yields a quicker throttle response, and of course more power... well that's why i plan on doing a regular maintenance check on the fans every couple months or so. I have had on a mustang the aftermarket fans go out but it was from a miswire on the previous owner's part.

All of these increases have never been quantifiably verified by anyone except the fan manufacturers. Remember yes you are not driving a fan but also have increased drag due to increase in electrical demand, Fuel economy saving is minuscule at best.

I did this conversion on several different rigs and ran them for a year or better and kept logs. There was no quantifiable increase in performance of any kind.

The major difference's where a thinner wallet and an increase in engine temps under stress as most electric setups do not move as much air as efficiently as the stock setup.

Face it you do it because it has cool factor

True there is a cool factor, but my buddy did this mod last year and noticed a consistent 40 miles to the tank... It may not seem like much but if I can get the same increase or close to it that would mean I go farther on the same amount of gas which to me justifies the mod. Also it got rid of the fact thAt the stock clutch fan was whining louder than my exhaust

Like I said I have yet to see ANY documentation to prove the gains..........only hearsay

I know that the newer trucks are using automatic fans now. My Powerstroke has an automatic fan in it, and I've ran across a few 6.4L's at work that weren't belt driven fans.

The gains would simply be no more "wind tunnel" sound upon take off on a cold start (mine does that now till the about the second stop sign from my house, then it goes away. It kicks it in sometimes when I am running the A/C a lot, but it just annoys the piss outta me cus its a roaring sound, and if you happen to punch your truck with it kicked it, the belt will slip, and yes my belt is a brand new gator back belt. I heard it squeal several times when doing this.

A good electric fan would be fine. As far as electrical drain, come on. Get real the belt isn't going to be dragged down any less with the alternator turning out more amps, because the battery is pretty much plenty to keep those fans going on its own, and the alternator will not have to charge... that is a stupid suggestion. Just like people said that hydrogen gas thing didn't work. My uncle put several on peoples vehicles, and gains were 10-12 mpg increases on the ones he got the mixture correct on, and the drain on the alternator was slim to none. You can buy a bigger alternator anyway. I've had a Expedition, 1999 its stock, except I took a electric fan off a newer F150, and put it on it. Its a 4.6L, and the temp hasn't changed a damn bit. The fan quits spinning? It'd have to sit there for a good 30 mins in 100 degree weather to deal any real damage to the motor. I know because I left my fan off to go to autozone to purchase a new fan clutch, and the temps never changed at all, left the truck running while inside, and it never moved an inch, and I was in there a good 30 mins. It was 82 degrees here that day.

I have heard horror stories in Arizona and places where the temps are easily recorded at 105 degrees on a good day, if not higher, but you gotta be a moron to think that fan sitting idling is spinning fast enough to keep your motor from over heating. I've seen cop cars, plenty of them. My boss owns a damn car lot, a ford dealership at that. The cop cars in there, have a extra coolant line running through it, its blue colored on most of them.

The mechanics there told me that in extreme conditions they may have to pop the hood to keep the car at a reasonable temperature, but for the most part around here they never even have to do that. The point being is a normal vehicle such as a Ranger, or any other vehicle, will over heat if you just let idle for along period of time. It even states so in the user manual if you read. Most people aren't complete idiots that leave there damn trucks running burning fuel, its not a diesel!

I have to say, I noticed a a slight increase in my gas mileage, going from regular headlights to these HID's, which fyi I left on for 2 hours straight, and my truck fired up no problems.... Most vehicles with the cooling fans if you turn the key to the on position those electric fans will fire up, and run off the battery, if the vehicle had been previously running and was hot when it was shut off.

Chris you nailed it! I am so sick of people posting about how electric fans don't make a difference. If you talk to anyone that has actually done it they will tell you it does!

Remember the fan will not be adding electrical load when you are moving. Air flowing through the radiator cools the engine just fine. Set your fan controller so it doesn't come on until about 200 degrees. It will never run while driving. Only when you're stopped for more than a few minutes.
