Re: Electric fans anyone???
Wow, old thread. Oh well, never hurts to throw my two cents in. I guess depending on certain environments and factors you will see and you will not see any increases or decreases of any sort. For instance, if as stated in the first few threads (don't plan on reading for the next 3 hours so that's about as far as I got), if you live in areas where the temp's often exceed 100 degrees, and you're in stop in go traffic China style, then electric fans probably arn't your best bet as there's chances you can screw the wiring up, or...not setting the temp right and it only turns on when your motor already warped your heads. But on the other hand, most people who say they've never seen a change are usually ones who have it wired to a switch of some sort where they turn it on themselves...common sense, of course you're not going to see any noticeable difference...because you're only turning it on when you see that thermostat guage creeping up, which means your engine runs hotter for longer, and lets face it...you're not always watching that gauge to know when to turn it on and more importantly OFF and that means you're killing mileage and power as your engine loses power the longer it stays hot.
But for the ones that live in normal areas where it's a rarity to see temps above 96 most of the year, and they have their thermostats set for a certain temp...say factory recommended then yes you'll see a power and fuel gain as the fans only kick on when they read that temp and only as long as they need to. Plus, that's one less pulley for the belt to drag around when it kicks in, because if less drag is an impossible scenerio, then would anyone explain to me why the AC (which works off the same exact point as the cooling fans) can be deleted and gains of 10 to 15HP can be made and upwards of 3 or 4MPG's can be made are impossible?
Just saying...granted, there's not much proof out there that shows what gains you can have, but there's obviously has to be some proof in the putting or why else would a 800 horsepower drag car or along those lines have electric fans and deleted AC?
