Default Electrical bug.

Well last night my truck kept blowing 15 amp fuses for my headlight switch so my dash lights weren't working. So like an idiot I put a 30 amp fuse in a 15 amp slot and it of course started to burn up the wiring. When the wiring started smoking the dome light shut off. I called my dad he said to drive it home since I was close and the trans didn't wanna shift but he said it was because my truck was running on mechanical and not electrical. So how would one go about fixing this?

What electrical did you add lately? That's where I would start.

In my dome light I added LED bulbs and in my instrument panel I put the same led bulbs added a cb with a fuse for it pre attached from the factory. But I did have my radio out a few hours before it and there is a melted wire that goes to the plug for my radio and now that I think of it the radio does have a few ends of wires showing from the PO.

Well tracking you steps backward should point you to the problem wire,I would think. You probably have a bare wire somewhere tripping your fuse.

You probably exposed a bare wire when you were poking around under your dash either with the LED's or CB install.Good luck Bud!

Start with a DVM and check the resistance between all the wires and ground.

i already know it isn't something to do with my CB since its all sitting on top of my dash i can see every wire that's in the CB. And it's been a little over two months so i will see if it's my radio first because that's the only burnt wire I can find so far. But i will check more when i get home and have time to mess with it.

Yep, DVM = digital volt meter. Sounds like there was a direct short on a power lead.

depending on what you are checking it may be
