Default Dimmer Switch Problems

My lights started giving me crap about a week ago. They wouldn't come on sometimes, but I could wiggle the dimmer switch around and get them to go. Got a new dimmer switch, but now I found the real problem; one of the terminals that goes into the top plug in the dimmer switch melted its spot out of the plug! Now I'm having a heck of a time finding a plug, probably have to go to a junkyard unless someone tells me where to find one on the web. The big question is, what made the wire do that? It's only for the main headlights, not any of the other lights. thanks.

is it the dimmer switch, or the headlight switch? if it's the headlight switch, you can get the pigtail from car quest for 1/2 the price of ford.

Take pics and post em up, I can't really tell what you are talking about. But if something melted you are pulling to many amps somewhere along the wire, so you need to trace the wire back as best you can and see if it is shorting out somewhere or if something else is drawing power off of it. Wiring doe wear out over time and can fail.
