Default Re: Anybody know how to get the overdrive to be off instead of on?

My question on this subject is this:
My button doesn't work at all- is that electrical or computer problem?
My truck stays in OD on all the time and in my location that's not good due to all the hills, it's constantly shifting up and down.
I have a mechanic buddy (that is Ford trained) that says the wire for the button is extremely small and gets worn out after a while. It needs to be replaced, which means a fair amount of work digging down that far.
But you mentioned the possibility of a computer issue. So now I'm wondering...

I'm guessing your buddy is right and the wire is warn down or broken. Because then it would always stay on. Does your over drive try and come on through all gears? even though always on the overdrive gear should only activate in the last 2 or 3 gears I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, 5R44E and 5R55E Rangers have two overdrive gears. Something like 1, 1 OD, 2, 3, 3OD. There is an extra line of code in the computer on 5R equipped trucks that basically tricks the transmission into applying overdrive after 1st gear, and then again after 3rd gear. This creates the feeling of five gears, but in reality it's just 3 gears, two of which are overdriven.

I'm a little bit rusty on my automatic knowledge, but I'm pretty sure it's something close to that.
