Default Persistent gremlin...considering driving truck off cliff

94 4.0 v6 5 speed. 145xxx miles.

Truck won't turn over. Turn the key, hear a click, nothing. Click persists when holding key over and pumping clutch.

3 month old battery, brand new lead onto positive terminal. Checked all grounds, connections. Only connection that looks bad is the neutral safety switch. (connection on the upper right side of the transmission). Looks like previous owner just tried attaching cables by gooping a whole bunch of silicone to the connection.

Truck doesn't start in any gear. Truck was running fine. This has happened more than once. Tried tapping starter while a buddy turned it over, nothing. Truck is getting power, headlights, domes, everything works.

Could it be a bad starter / solenoid? This has been an extremely irritating and persistent problem. I'm out of ideas. Any ideas?

U can always pull the starter off and take it to the part store and have them test the starter instead of just buying a new one

Hear a click of the starter relay on the drivers side fender or click of the bendix hitting the flywheel?

I would have the starter checked. If you want to drive it off a cliff take a deep breath and sell it to me for parts... LOL

It can be fixed.... sounds like a bad starter

----------

Also, would change out the safety switch. If they gooped it up they goofed it up!

Then take off starter have tested, that good then change solenoid on firewall keep us updated.

Haha thats exactly what I had in mind. Well I pulled the starter, checked it, was toast. Bought new one, installed, fired right up. Simple solution. Thanks guys. Should've used the ol' noggin before whining on the web.
