Default Venting Electrolyte?

So i was poking around under the hood and noticed alot of crap on my battery around the vents. Heres a picture

Should I be worried about/do anything about this?

I haven't added water to the battery or anything. It came with the truck and I haven't touched it since I bought the truck. Its a motorcraft tested tough max manufacture date 7/07 i believe....

You need to at least clean it up. Mine does that too, but that acid will eat through you battery tray, and your hand for that matter. It also increases the resistance in your power wires if the battery terminal looks like hell too. I'm replacing my battery here soon to an Optima, they don't do this, at least that I have ever seen.

As long as your battery is still holding a load, and will start your truck you're probably ok. However you need to clean it off. Use baking soda, and water. Mix the two together to make a past. With an old tooth brush apply the solution to the battery, posts, and cables. Make sure there's no moisture left on battery or posts before hooking terminals back up. As this will eventually lead to more corrosion. make sure your water level in battery is ok. Next step go to Auto Zone O'rileys etc, and pick up some battery corrosion preventive spray. Apply spray, and you shouldn't see corrosion again till the battery has shit the bed. Good luck

Clean it off, or it will mess stuff up. I beleive thi is why I have a strip of paint on my ds fender that to this day continues to rot off. Previous person may have let it get all over from the battery.
