Default Door ajar

2000 Ranger XLT extended cab. My door ajar light comes on and off randomly no matter how hard I slam my door. I hear this is a common problem with these trucks but no one seems to know how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Are you sure your back doors are closed? I had a problem with that too. My back doors need to really be slammed to close properly, you can check by pulling outwards on the door and watching the top, it shouldn't move at all. My issue had nothing to do with the front doors and the light only came on sometimes, but if the back doors aren't closed all the way the front won't either. Maybe that's your issue.

I've checked all the doors and it's not that. It has been in an accident though.

Well then perhaps the switch is getting stuck. When I was looking into it before I found the problem (rear doors needing to be slammed closed every time) it was said to try spraying WD-40 at the switch.

What kind of accident was it?

I'm not sure about the accident. It happened before I got the truck. I'll be sure to try WD.

Hmm, ok. Let me know if it fixes the problem.
