Best Fuse For Glovebox Light? #13
Would the #13 Horn, Interior Lights fuse be the best choice to use for a glovebox light? It is a 15A fuse. If I'm thinking right it should be hot all the time and not switched. I am using one of these. Thanks,Bob C.

When I put my glovebox light in, I tapped into the wire that is downstream of the BSR. That way, if I or someone else leave the glove box open, it times out after 30 minutes. If you scour the schematics for the Explorer of similar vintage, you'll see that the inter lighting all comes from that BSR. Hang tight, I'm trying to find a schematic for you.

Ok, here's everything you need. Schematic shows you want to use the lg/og colored wire which is pin #5 on connector c2280b in the schematic. I've attached a sketch of the SJB so you can identify connector c2280b as well as a pic of the front side of the SJB.
That number 18 to the left of the wire color in the schematic, that is the wire gauge. 705 is the circuit number. This is part of the nomenclature on these schematics, which happen to be out for the Ford factory service manual. If interested, I can probably find the defenition of all of the nomenclature used. Just hollar.
----------
Another schematic shows horn is also on fuse 13. There's no reason why you can't tap in using that adapter other than you won't get the BSR feature.

Hi Bob, no reason why you can't use #13 fuse. According to the wiring diagram, it's hot all the time.

So uh, this might be a dumb question... Why don't you replace the bulb in the OEM glovebox light? I swapped in an LED to make it a bit brighter...

Brian I am not changing the bulb I am installing a glovebox light that my Ranger didn't come factory equipped with and making sure fuse #13 is always hot to run the wire to.Did that explain it better? As far as the LED goes I would rather keep the dimmer stock bulb so as not to impair my driving vision at night if the glovebox is open, make sense?

Ahh, gotcha. I assumed the light was standard. My mistake.

NP bud, understandable. I did read your idea and proposal and I should have acknowledged it, my apologies for not doing so when responding earlier. The reason I suggested taping into the wiring downstream from the BSR is that if you wire in an appropriate connector, maybe a male to female plug setup and do this at the SJB, you will have preserved the opportunity to more easily add other lighting down the road. Plug and play power. Things like lighted mirrors on visors, map lights, the light on the OHC, under hood light (?, timed if desired) and any other interior lighting comes to mind. That was all.
