Default Oil leak right between Oil Pan & Transmission

I am not sure whether I have a leaking Oil pan gasket or Rear Main Seal Leak. Its leaking right between the front of the pan. I have noticed it leaking Engine oil for about a week now. I get a spot in my driveway a little bigger than a silver dollar after every time I drive. The oil level hasn't moved much Im running 10w-30 Motorcraft Synthetic. I have attached some pictures that will hopefully pinpoint the problem. If it turns out it is the rear main seal, what is the difficulty of dropping the tranny and replacing the seal? I just wanted to see what others thought before I made any costly decisions. Thanks.

you are right , probablt is the rear main . before you rip things apart check the valve covers , they could be leaking at the rear , it is easier to do them than pull the tranny ,clutch or flywheel remove the old seal and replacing it , this wont garrentee that it wont leak again . mone leaks too , I just keep an eye on the oil level top it up as needed , cheaper than doing all that work removing the tranny

Well if you actually think about it and don't mind, having a leak like that is a good thing. Being you're putting fresh oil in it on a more constant basis it's getting new oil instead of old oil staying in there.

Few months ago my truck had the same kind of leak. Didn't bother me at all. Then I replaced the crank shaft sensor and I found out that was leaking as well. After a month no more leak. I just saying you should look around with a big and bright flashlight and touching every hard to reach corners in your truck.

I know.. it's just the thought I know there's something wrong with my truck which annoys the hell out of me. Went to the store for 20 mins, tried to start my truck when I left, would't turn over. But it started with a jump. I swear if it isn't one thing it's another. Finally gave in and took to my co-worker's shop.

My 4.0 was leaking at the Lower intake gasket and running down the front and rear of the engine. Oil pan was also leaking. Took advantage of having the engine out and put all new gaskets and seals in it. No oil leaks now. :-)

Welp had them look at it and said that it was the oil pan gasket or rear main seal which I thought it was. Said it would be worth it just to replace the oil pan gasket and rear main seal at the same time since the transmission would need to be dropped either way. Would probably be almost $600 just in labor. Was hopping to get another 2 years out this truck before I graduate college. I don't know what kind of vehicle I would consider replacing if I had to get a new one. It's unfortunate that they don't make the Ranger anymore.

So just add oil until you either get the money or graduate and can afford to fix it. $600 will buy a lot of oil for now. Put a little oil-dry in the drive to soak up the oil drip. It's not gonna blow up - that's a good thing.
