02 4x4 Front wheel bearing, Replace just bearing??
I just found I need a R. front wheel bearing and it comes only as a hub assembly. The shop said the $130 assembly will last just past the 1 year warranty, So next choice is $175 for a 3 year part. I hate to do that to get a $15 bearing.
I seem to remember seeing a thread here or somewhere about replacing the bearing only. I have searched and can't seem to find it. If replacing just the bearing is even possible and someone could point me to the thread I would be grateful. I haven't removed the assembly yet, but, I have a press and other tooling and feel like I can remove and replace most bearings if I knew the replacement number and where to get it.
Thanks ..

Re: 02 4x4 Front wheel bearing, Replace just bearing??
Thanks, Could be I just thought I had seen a thread about doing the bearing only some time back.
Just checked Rockauto, Looks like they sell the bearing alone 6 to 12 bucks.
I may go ahead and pull the assembly and see about taking the bearing out. Will be no worse off if I break it
If it can be removed it'll probably have a number.

Re: 02 4x4 Front wheel bearing, Replace just bearing??
The 4x2 trucks have the older style "free" bearings that you keep finding. The 4x4 trucks have the sealed bearing assemblies that you can't take apart. There's no way you can cheap out. If you absolutely have to be able to replace just the bearings, then I'll gladly swap you my 4x2 stuff for your 4x4 stuff.

Re: 02 4x4 Front wheel bearing, Replace just bearing??
Ok, I believe y'all. Guess I'm just old and tight, from a generation that wants to fix rather than replace.
Thanks for confirming what the shop said.
Edit: Advance has a code for 15% off on online orders over $50 + $25 coupon on next 50 purchase. Pick up in store option. That helped ease the pain!

I think I would rather have sealed bearings than my setup. There are just so many steps to tear into my front end...

I assume "top hat" refers to the actual locking hub?
