Default grinding noise help?

did some searching and still couldnt find the exact answer i was looking for. i have a 2000 ranger with a 5 speed transmission. about a month ago i noticed my throwout bearing was starting to go with that grinding/ticking noise or whatever.

Then one day i went to put my truck from neutral to first and it made an awful grinding noise as i was trying to get it in gear. started driving and i couldnt get it into any gear...wtf...but had someone check it out and my clutch fluid was pretty low...(silly me)

so got that filled back up and all the fluid is holding well (no leaks). But it still makes a grinding noise 75% of the time when im shifting to the next gear...i dont think it's syncros because when i double clutch theres no noise.

So what do you guys think? New clutch? or does the line just need to be bled?

I would absolute bleed it first!

The price is right being the biggest argument. It's the cheapest, easiest troubleshooting step.

Let me see if I understand what you are describing.
When you press the clutch pedal down, to change gears, you are experiencing a grinding noise that is not there otherwise.
You are unable to change gears smoothly unless you double clutch .

When you say you are double clutching , are you describing the act of ,pressing the clutch in, shifting to neutral, releasing the clutch , pressing the clutch again while you select the next gear , and releasing the clutch again?

Generally speaking the throw out bearing will make a squeal noise when bad , not a grinding noise.

If you are going to replace the throw out bearing , replace the entire clutch assembly while you are there.

yup thats what i meant haha. the grinding noise when shifting could be described as what happens when you "miss" a gear when shifting, you get that grinding/grunting noise (im very bad at describing noises), so thats why i feel that the clutch is not disengaging fully when pressed in. When i bring it in for the TOB i plan on getting your regular clutch kit with all the do-dads.

Almost positive my clutch is gone, doesnt grab till practically all the way up and likes to hop a little when i start it up...i plan on going with the clutch kit.

Anyone got a price to get it done if the shop charges $65/hr?

Brought it to the shop and my mechanic had a tranny specialist look at it. The guy drove it and said definitely needs a clutch and whole assembly. They also ran it on the four-posts and just to my luck the transfer case was making some obnoxious noises, looks like i need one of those too. Damn haha

Here's why

took my old truck in for a alignment they said my truck wasnt safe to drive home confused I ask why they said my braking system isn't working right even more confused I again ask why they said it was because my master cylinder had brake fluid in it......I almost punched the guy
I was so pissed I made them take my truck off the rack and I went somewhere else

If just a clutch kit job? Should be under $100. That's not dealer servicing, just average shop cost around here for doing it.

I would have punched him lol jk. But i would have been a smart ass, and prob talked to his boss, unless he was the boss, then would have talked to any customers there to give them a fyi. It's hard to find a good shop now of days.
