i have a 91 ranger and in reverse, 1st,4th, and 5th it vibrates and only in 4th and 5th gears it feels like it jerks a little bit when i stepon the gas.can someone please tell me whats wrongwith it? my friend told me that the vibration is from the u joints and i checked them and they have just barlythe slightest bit of play. could that be it?

if its a two piece drive shaft, check the steady bearing for play

most any drive shaft will have some play, but if the play is in the u-joints that's not good. Did you try greasing the joints?
