Default Transfer case Whine

This has been a pretty nasty month or so for my truck, but Ive noticed that since this winter has ended, my transfer case makes a whining noise that is speed dependent. Sounds quite similar to having a manual in first gear and letting it engine brake. And it is hesitant to disengage 4wheel. However if I hit a bump, there is a thud and 4wheel disengages and the whine stops. Ill try to take a video of it later. I'm getting my xfer case flushed on Monday when I get my alignment, but any ideas what might be causing this noise? I'm not sure if I am gonna feel confident to use my 4wheel while it is making this racket. Any help is appreciated.
Mark

Does it only make the noise when it is in 4wd? Mine started doing that this year as well but only when I got to like 50+mph. I had the fluids changed in both diffs and the t-case and the noise is gone now. I know the fluid in the front diff was a little low. Not sure what the noise actually was.

I flush n filled the xfer case, front n rear diffs, and transmission and it hasn't given me any problems since. I guess the fluid was old or low. It was pretty rough looking coming out. 4wheel slips in and out with ease and is relatively quiet now. Thanks for the idea.

Dude, same exact thing with me this week. Over the winter I was getting a horrible whine in 4wd above 45-50mph. I did both diffs, the t-case, and the tranny this week and the noise is gone. It shift better too. All had 80,000 on the fluids. It was clearly time. I don't know which component was responsible for the whining noise. But it worked.
