Post 4x4 problem, need help please!

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6, Regular Cab, 4x4 with manual locking hubs, and it drives pretty great. Gas mileage isn't the best but that's not my problem. My problem is that my 4x4 won't engage for some reason. I locked the hubs in, spun the tires to make sure they clicked/locked into place (which they did), and went to press the buttons on the module in the cab to turn them on, but nothing came on. The Low range or 4x4 light did not come on, and the front tires were not moving. I am a student who's learning to be an auto technician, and my instructor threw the truck on the lift to see if the front tires would spin after I locked the hubs and put it in drive. But nothing happened. So to sum it up, basically the wheels lock into place fine but nothing happens when I try to turn on the 4x4 in the cab from the module. To me it sounds like an electrical problem like a bad module or something bad in the transfer case, but I may be wrong. If anyone has any other possible solutions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Is there a click noise when you turn the switch? It most likely the electric motor on the transfer case that switches it in and out of ranger. Easy fix and I think not to expensive. get a volt meter and test the motor on the transfer case to see if its getting power.

I don't think it is. If you're talking about when I lock in the hubs and spin the tires yes it clicks into place, but if you mean pressing one of the buttons on the module I don't think I hear any clicks. None of the lights come on the dash either. I can check to see if it's the motor, I'll let you know if it is or not. Thanks

Your model year does have a history of the shift motor seizing and/or sticking/binding if not used periodically to engage 4X. Symptoms include no 4X engagement and the lights by the switch being goofy. If you disassemble, clean and lube, many of those units can be restored to service. Consider this as and after verifying voltage is making it to the connector.

I'm surprised there is no mention of hub functionality and engagement, I'll assume that it was done for good measure and just not noted.
