Default ranger binds up in 4x4

i searched and cant find any info so im hoping someone can point me in the right direction. i have a 95 ford ranger supercab. with manual hubs and transfer case. when i locked the hubs and put 4x4 high i get binding and pop when driving in forward or reverse. i dont want to do any damage to the transfer case so i am not going to use 4x4 till i figure this out. also the truck does not want to go over 35 to 40 miles per hour. i would appreciate any help. thanks

You don't say what conditions you're driving in. It will bind up on normal road conditions. You need to drive in conditions where the tires can slip (drive line can unwind), ie. sand, gravel, mud, snow, ice, etc. etc.

If you have the manual it will tell you not to use 4wd on pavement. That is what it sounds like. That or it is locked up lockers will pop sometimes like making a left or right turn.

Both my 4x4 lights flashed one time when I forgot to plug the connector back in for the selector knob. I also believe it flashed every 2 minutes and had a certain sequence to it.
