So I have a 1992 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L 4 Cylinder with a 5 speed transmission. The truck itself has over 302,000 miles on it. I have noticed lately that shifting is getting a little rough. If I double clutch the shifting is smoother but still not perfect. The tranny has always made a whining sound in every gear except 4th but never noticed a performance issue.
I should mention that the tranny also has a small leak so I have to top the fluid off every now and then. I was thinking maybe it could use a bushing kit as well because when I shift while holding the shifter below the shift knob the shift is much smoother and makes less noise. I am not sure what to do first. I was thinking about draining the whole tranny and putting all new fluid in it. This brings me to my 2nd question. I know certain rangers came with different trannys like Mazda, Mitsubishi. I am having trouble identifying mine
. When I look at the tranny case all I can see is a white Ford sticker with some numbers on it. There is also a fill and drain plug on the tranny. I don't know if that helps at all.
