Default tranny swap...

ok, so i got a 3.0l v6 flexfuel auto. im not really a fan of auto trannies at all and i want a 5 speed manual. im not looking to sell my truck however because ive had it for almost a year now, and i know theres nothing wrong with it; no leaks, no vibrations, etc...i know there are manual trannies for the 3.0l, what do i have to do to convert mine from auto to manual?

btw, i know i posted this twice. first time was in wrong category, sorry

oooh this is something I've been researching because I'd love to have a manual tranny again. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is mostly a bolt-on job, at least once you get the parts. The best way to do this would be to find a junk yard truck to get everything off of.

As for what you need heres what I got so far...
  • Manual Tranny
  • Clutch
  • flywheel
  • pilot and throwout bearing
  • shifter assembly
  • clutch cylinder
  • clutch hydraulic lines
  • slave cylinder
  • clutch pedal assembly

Theres probably a few other things but thats all I got now...the auto ECU should work with the manual but not the other way around.

thats what im hoping, except im thinking that a hole might have to be made in the body? since youll need to connect the shifter to the tranny

I think, but am not sure, that there is a plate that is removable.

Also, if you are 4x4, then you have to deal with the transfer case. I don't know if the case behind the auto will bolt to the manual or not. You may need a certain tail section, but someone on here may know for sure.

I did the swap on my 01. It's not hard. But since you're an 01, you'll have to go through the same shit I did. It's all the small things that add up.

Here's my thread from RF. You should really read over it. It's very descriptive with pics and tells a lot on how to perfom the swap.

http://www.ranger-forums .com/f82/tr...to+Manual+Swap

The transfercase will bolt up to either auto or manual tranny as long as it's corresponding tailhousing is attached to the tranny you get from a donor truck. Dont' worry about the transfer case at all, that's not the worry. The PCM programing is the concern and finding the right one that came with your year with your power options.

Then all you need is a 3.0L 2wd manual tranny and everything will be golden

The hardest part is finding the correct PCM. That was a bitch to track down. But all in all, it was fairly easy. Thanks to Shane and the others that helped me along the way.

I had already swapped it out. The insert at the bottom that shows the drive selector, is interchangable with a black insert made for manual equipped trucks. You can get that a a JY too.
