Default transmission troubles, help asap

1998 4.0 4x4 5w55e transmission.
I recently moved way north so maybe the cold helped this happen but as of yesterday I only have park and forward. It wouldnt shift till like a mile down the road of struggling then it couldn't decide if it would stay In that gear. The O/D indicator on the dash was blinking until I turned the truck off and tried again.
Like I said when I go to any gear it goes in to "drive". No indications of this happening it just went out on me.
This is my only car I have here and I have 2 weeks to fix it before my ride to work leaves the state. Any tips or ideas what could of happened?

Check shift linkage. Sounds like maybe something froze up and when you went to shift it messed something.

Checked everything I could without dropping the tranny and couldn't find anything out of the norm.

Sounds like the valve body gasket could have blown out seems to be a fairly common issue

Hopefully its a valve body or a broken band. Something simple. Im going to have to call a shop to get it worked on with my schedule and whatnot.
