Default swapping 2.9 for a 351w

Hi all I have an 88 ranger 4x4 2.9. My poor old tired engine is weak. and I mean weak! wanted to swap in a 351w but not sure if it will bolt up to my transmission. I have a 5 speed manusl and would like to keep it. Has anyone else swapped engines like this and did they bolt up? what problems did you run into? Thanks

a 302 would be a lot better route to go...the 351 is a lot wider at the heads

If your a master fabricater, you might have a chance. You'll need the trans and transfer case from the v8. So you'll need to fab.mounts and driveshafts. Unless you go with a two wheel drive,then things get easer.

I'd do like they say on here,get a donor explorer with a v8 4x4.

I agree with this however my good friends at advance adapters could probably make you an adapter plate to bolt a 302 or 351 to your existing transmission however the transmission you have may not take the increase in horsepower and torque well.

The V8 won't bolt to your trans, the easist way would be to use a C4 auto.

I'd be worried about the trans durability though made to handle a 2.9 not a 351
