1993 Ranger 5 speed issues
New to the forums here, Hi everyone!
I'll save you all the pain of my horrid introductions.
I bought my first Ranger, after owning a Mustang for a while because well, I love the Ranger. Always have had a soft spot for them. I don't know it it's my love for the 2.3l inline four, or the fact that it's a truck that can fit in tighter spaces than a Honda Accord.
Here's where my problems are though, The last owner tried to replace the clutch on his own (the next statement are not my words directly) without much mechanical inclination. (end the not my words part.) My best guess from not having a hydrolic lift anymore is that he did not tourqe the transmission to spec anywhere. It's leaking from the rear main seal and where it meets the engine. (I only spent a year at college for auto tech, so bare with my lack of proper terms. Engines and electronics, I'm the guy for, but transmissions, help me dear god.) When shifting into second not only can I hear it, but I can feel the transmission tourqe ever so slightly. The throw out bearing whines when not on the accelerator, and rattles while at a stand still. From the research i've done, when the guy put it back together he put the input shaft in wrong, as it makes no sound while in 4th gear, and OD is so loud and howly that I can't drive on the freeway.
Engine is in tip top shape for a 20 year old truck, just needs some new spark plugs.
If you need anymore deatails about the transmission, I can get it up in the air enough to look under there and take pictures, feel around, look at what bolts are tourqed at, I just need to get it up to where all the tools are.
One more thing, I've been checking the tranny fluid almost daily, and it's still full, so hopefully it's just overfilled.
