Possibly...but I wouldn't suspect it as much. Just because it is reporting an accurate speed doesn't mean it does it all the time. It could be dropping signal somewhere in the spectrum or getting an internal short somewhere.

Ha! I wish, then I wouldn't be stuck in graduate school. My luck with the justice system is unnerving to say the least anyway.

That means you bought 4 new cars with internal shorts to the odometer. I doubt it!

Haha this is such bs....
I would never trust a radar gun...i prefer mechanical stuff on my own truck to tell me my speed.
Radar guns have to be set and calibrated often...or they are not accurate..
If u ever go to court ask for paperwork on when the radar gun was last calibrated and checked....if they cant provide proof of that then it cant be used.
Gears and sprockets designed and engineered to determine speed and onboard electronics of the vehicle are going to be more reliable...
Last time i got pulled over..the officer asked "do u know how fast you were going?" I replied..."yes i do...i have a working speedometer right in front of me...but how fast do you think i was going?"
He said he had me clocked at 60mph in a 55 zone...
I laughed....and said " well one of our devices is wrong...and i trust my own equipment connected to my truck over your radar gun..."
He called me a smartass...
I said...well either give me a warning or a ticket...and if u give me a ticket i will see u in court...
He lectured me and gave me a verbal warning...
Two weeks later he pulled me over again...same cop...and said my tint was illegal....
Long story short...i put him in his place again....what a *******.

Re: speedometer not working
True story man....
And as fsr as the tint goes...my rear ext cab windows and back windows are all stock...and i had no tint on my driver/passenger door windows.....
And here in Mn u can have ur back windows tinted as dark as u want....
Kind of funny when someone has to inform the officer of what the laws are.
And the whole issue saying that the speedometer isnt a legal way of determining speed...well if that is true then legally u cant be responisble for not knowing your true speed...so that is just bull...not true...
I was driving down broadway, doing 30mph...the speed limit....its a 4 lane road...and i was in the left lane....and on my right i got passed by a green suv...speeding like crazy..within seconds a cop pulls me over and says i was doing 50 in a 30... i said it wasnt me it wast green suv that just sped by me....
I was in my wifes pontiac..she was with me in the passenger seat....she even told the officer about the green suv...his radar gun must have hit that suv...not our small car....
Anyway i just got another verbal warning.
I have a clean record...no accidents or speeding tickets or any violations...normally when they run and look that up they just give me a warning.
Yeah i once got pulled over at 1am after getting off work late and the first thing the officer asked as he was shinning a light into my eyes was if i had been smoking pot.....
I said no..i just got off a 14 hr shift i am tired...he said "well i pulled u over because of your items hanging from your mirror". It was my college graduation tassel...
Yeah i freaked out on him....how does a tassel hanging from a mirror mean i was smoking pot..and how the hell could he see that tassel at night and thru my topper....
Another dumb cop..

OK, seems like an easy/cheap enough fix to see if that is the problem. Do you have any advice for pulling the sensor and replacing it?
thanks again for all the help

Re: speedometer not working
On the rear differential driver's side. One 8mm bolt, one plug, pops right out. Rinse and repeat in reverse and done. 5 minutes.
If the sensor's not the problem and it registers fine, just yank the cluster out and move the needle to the correct position. There's a trick involving some wires, alligator clips, and a AA battery. It's in the how-to's for changing your odometer to a different cluster. Use that procedure for getting a base reading and adjusting the needle accordingly.
