Well I've tried looking through all the threads to find an answer, but I don't see anything that matches...

I have an '02 3.0 4x4 5 speed. When I am accelerating (usually in first gear) from a stop and going slowly I can hear some sort of clinking noise coming from under the truck. Almost sounds like two dinner forks being clapped together. Sometimes it clinks twice or three times, other times it just clinks once. I can only hear it if my windows are down. It also happens when I am coming to a stop. Either way it seems to only ever happen between 0 an 5 mph.

It also seems to do it more after it has warmed up a bit and I can make it happen if I'm feathering the gas with the clutch out.

Hope I explained it well enough. Anybody have the same thing going on?

i had a similar problem on mine. Then it lead to a grinding in 4x4. It was a bad u joint. Easy fix. To pinpoint mine it was where the front drive shaft comes out of the tcase there is a double u joint, between those joints was the u joint centering yoak assembly. Was chasing that issue for about 2 months.

I would start by checking your u joints, have you changed any yet? check them for slop. You could rotate the front drive shaft to see if you hear that sound. that is where mine was comming form
