Question Can you swap an open 4.10 for L/S 4.10?

I have the open 8.8 4.10 in my edge. I was looking around just to see if i could get my hands on the L/S 4.10. Does anybody know if its a very difficult upgrade/swap if I were able to even find one? Basically what else am I looking at spending or is more of a clean swap?

It is a direct swap if you buy what yo need. Of course you need to know what your doing to get the gears aligned right

If all you want is to swap in a Traction lok, or any other carrier for that matter, all you'll need to do is swap over your ring gear to the new carrier & set the backlash so that it's as close to the original reading as possible(be sure to take one before you remove the carrier). With a little effort, it's not that difficult to get it spot on!

The only time you need to check the pattern is if you're swapping complete gear sets. Also, you cannot interchange gear sets! they are finish lapped as a set. If you find a L/S carrier with a 4.10 ring gear, you cannot use it with your pinion gear.

Good advice Trev. If I had an open diff. I would forget about a l/s swap. It would be time for lunch box locker.

Lunch box locker.....would you really consider that or were you being sarcastic. I have heard of those but know nothing about them.

I would really consider it. They are low cost, reliable and easy to install. You don't even have to remove the diff. from the housing. The L/S is good, but I'd prefer a locker. Maximum traction.

You should look at finding an explorer axle to swap in... 4.10s, limited slip, 31 splines, and disc brakes. It's basically an all around upgrade.
