How to tell m5od hd
Hello, I have a 2000 xlt 3.slow 2wd with the 5 speed manual. My tranny has been whining like I have a supercharger for some time now. I've been looking to replace it with the m5od hd but being so close to 2001 I was thinking it may have one already. On the side of the tranny there is a F87A code. Also I was reading a swap thread and the shifter lock bolt is at the back of the shifter instead of on the side it looks like. Mine is on the back. Please help me identify.

Re: How to tell m5od hd
4.0l are the only hd. Technically it's only the sohc 4.0l.
You need to either rebuild it or find a 3.0l specific r1.
The rebuild kit is about $250. And on the explorer forum you can find a very good rebuild thread. Actually it pops up of you just google it

So are you saying the m5od is engine specific? I can't go pull an hd unit out of the junkyard? If so that's a bummer.

Re: How to tell m5od hd
It's bell housing specific to the engine being the bell housing isn't removable

Re: How to tell m5od hd
Doesn't the R1-HD have the same bolt pattern with an extra hole vs the R1?
