transmission slipping when cold

I have a 2004 ranger 2wd 4.0 liter with 195 000 miles on it. Recently its been slipping going from 1st to 2nd. I was thinking about flushing my fluid and changing the filter but I have been told that if its never been done that it may make my problem worse. Any ideas? Would it hurt to flush it at this point?

Well guys, my opinion would be to do the flush because doing nothing is not going to help the problem. I mean what's the alternative, let it keep doing it until it completely breaks down and maybe cause more damage and repair cost.
