Default AAMCO never again, Any Ideas whats wrong now?

So last week my reverse went out while i was backing up. I called around to a few places and got the same answer from everyone that my transmission probably needs to be rebuilt. I took it to aamco on 1/5/13 and they said it should be ready on either tuesday or wednesday. On friday I called to see what the hold up was and they said they were finishing it up and taking it for a road test and that they would call me after. They called me about 2 hours later and said it was ready to go. So 3000$ later im leaving and i get about a mile down the road to find that it can barly shift out of first and when it does the rpms are at 3k the the lowest and sometimes it shifts out of gear into neutral it seems, the overdrive off light started flashing on and off to. I took it back the next morning right when they opened and its been 2 days and no word on it. Take some advice and never go to aamco. Im thinking its my speed sensor or my torque converter, if anyone has an idea of what it could be any feedback is helpful. Its a 2.5l 4cylinder with a 4R44E transmission.

Sorry to hear about that. I've taken my truck into AAMCO twice now and ave been very pleased with the work and how quickly they finish it. 2 days for my transmission rebuild and a day and a half for the transfer case. Both times the parking lot was packed.

Yeah I will never go back to that place at least here in orlando. I once went to get new "brass and bearings" in the trans and about 750 dollars later, the truck was done. I thought to my self that they did such a great job, trans was no longer squealing 1-5 gears, until about 8 months later my trans was leaking fluid from the top. Went back to the shop and they wouldn't cover the damage even after i talked to the new owner. He said he wasn't liable for the previous customers. Found out instead of the 2 quarts required, there was about 4 and a half and re-used seals that should have been replaced.

So I called around a few shops and went down south to another Aamco, just figured they would cut me a deal. They ripped it all apart and replaced my clutch and sanded the fly wheel. Left the shop after 2 days and the truck could barely get in and out of gear. There was air in the slave and WAY too little fluid. Got that fixed no problem. About a week later, the rear main seal that I paid to have replaced was literally pissing oil, the whole underneath was soaked with oil, and I took it back once again and had it replaced. The manager said he would take care of me no matter what after all the horrors that have gone on. It's fine now after way too much money spent but I will never go there again unless the manager will cover something that went wrong on their part.

Would I recommend AAMCO to someone else, NO. Try to find a good local shop that cares about their customers and quality of work to retain loyal customers.

The 5r55e is the same, get a shift kit, speed sensor, converter, deeper pan and good fluid. If you have some mechanical ability and can read instructions you can fix your trans yourself
