Default Reverse Wont Engage
So this morning i shifted into reverse and something thunked. the reverse worked but it was running at a high RPM then what it should. I backed up and down the road a few times to see what was wrong, and I came up empty handed. I drove about 10 miles to go pick up a friend and when it cam time to reverse out of her driveway the reverse wouldnt engage. Every other gear works P,N,D,2,1 (It is an auto) but when i put it in reverse i rev the engine and nothing clicks. it just stays there. Has anyone else had this problem, I really need this truck to be working.

Any Ideas, thoughts?

one friend said it could be the linkage, or the tranny.

any other ideas?

exact same thing happened to mine a couple months ago.sounds like the tab on your reverse band broke.

Usually when a band breaks a rebuild is.the only fix

Been there. Done that 2 years ago..$1900 for tranny rebuild..

Check the linkage first, and maybe u wilk get lucky and that will be broken...

If its your reverse band....yeah u have to have it rebuilt.


I drove for about 6 months with no reverse while I saved up money. But I also have a motorcycle..

$1900 and you rebuilt it or a shop? The full 5R55E rebuild kit with upgraded everything is only $600...

Shop around some plenty of places cost less than $1900. My folks had $900 (with parts) into a complete rebuild by a reputable shop in Houston on their 4L60-e.
