5.13 Gears and 33s
I know it's not very sensible, or economical, but I was just curious what would happen if I put 5.13s in my 3.0L B3000... or if anyone's ever done it...
My truck came stock with 4.10s, and an 8.8 inch rear end. I now have 33 inch General Grabbers. I don't know if you've ever picked up a General Grabber, but they are very heavy... very! On top of that my 3.0L has no power. Right now, with 4.10s, the lack of torque is killing me. I can literally floor it from a stoplight and have a granny in a Prius under normal acceleration leave me in the dust. So, bottom line... I need to regear. At first, I wanted to get 4.56 gears, but after more research, I've decided I want more. So I'm at least getting 4.88s, and yes I know that's low.
So here's my question: What would happen if I put 5.13s in with 33x12.50x15 Generals and a weak 3.0L?
I know that my gas mileage would drop. I also know that I would be pushing high RPMs on the freeway. I don't care about fuel economy, and I can stay off the freeway if needed. I rarely get over 60 MPH. Usually just cruising around town at 30-40 MPH. I just want power.
Would it be completely outrageous for me to get 5.13s?

Re: 5.13 Gears and 33s
I'd go with 4.88s and see how you like them, 5.13s are like drag gears lol

To me it sounds like somthing is wrong with the truck, even though I have a 4.0 I have 33" 12.5 with 3.55 gears and I have little to no problem taking off, I can almost beat my friends ranger with 2.35 gears and 225/65 tires and he's a 4.0 also.

Re: 5.13 Gears and 33s
I ran my 4.0L with 4.10's and 33's for a while and was alright. Now have 4.88's and 35's and is slightly over geared but does highway awesome and has plenty of power. Now I know I am comparing my 4.0 to your 3.0, but I think 5.13's is a bit overkill. Just my opinion...

Re: 5.13 Gears and 33s
I'd go 4.88's, but if you want that extra power and don't mind the drawbacks then I don't see why not.

Holy hell why does your buddy have 2.35s? That's like landboat gearing.

Oh okay that makes more sense. I was about to say, those are gears from a 70s continental or something, haha.
