Default 03 ford ranger 4.0 manual trans 4x4

I just purchased this truck with 87,000 miles on it. The clutch seems to operate fine and I do not notice the RPMS jumping up under acceleration to indicate a slipping clutch...nor any problems with shifting or pedal movement. However I pulled into a gas station today and a gentelman asked me if the truck was a manual. I asked why? And he then proceded to tell me that it smelled like the clutch was burning? I did in fact smell what he was talking about but cant seem to pinpoint it? He claimed he had a few rangers so It was hard not to buy this guys word. However I have no leaks the only 2 things I can even guess about would be the parking brake hanging up or or maybe rolling out of 2nd since 1st is such a short gear? But Ive been driving clutches since I was 16 and never had any issues. A very smooth shifter and a light foot. Im open to any suggestions. Im also in CLEVELAND OHIO so if anyone is local Id love to get a second opinion.

I would replace the slave. Sounds like it's not doing it's job and the rangers are known to eat up slaves left and right.

Does the truck seem to roll smooth? No resistance? If there's resistance, I would check out the brakes, see if they're getting hot. Then if those check out, I would investigate the wheel bearings.

What makes you think its the slave? I know they have a reputation for crapping out but like i said the clutch works flawlessly

But you can smell clutch when you stop, right? Sounds like the slave isn't doing it's job, anymore.
