Default Transmission problems

so i was driving my truck the other day and just coasting. when i got back on the throttle it was like it was in neutral. i pulled over and my overdrive light was flashing i shut the truck off and started again. i pulled away and was doing 30 mph at 3000 rpm. i pulled over called a buddy and towed it home. now it does not go forward or backwards when in gear. i lifted the rear end off of the ground and the tires would spin. PLEASE ANYONE HELP im not sure what it is exactly. Thanks for any help

Same thing happened to me, was driving home from offroading and the O/D light blinked which means it was in "get home mode" and it locks it into a gear to get to where you need to go. It's like a check transmission light.

On your year the VSS sensor can effect the tranny. It is worth checking. The part is $20

sorry my bad........I was on my phone and thought you had a 2000.......the 1998, 1999 and 2000 rangers used the VSS in the differential to feed info to the ECU to so it knows when to shift.......they changed it in 2001.......there is a chance that some 2001 models built early in 2001 still used the VSS sensor this way........it might be worth investigating....

I reread you r thread...I don't think it is that sensor......it sounds a little more serious then that.......
