I got a '91 Ranger XLT 5spd that we just bought from someone for $500. We got it home on a trailer because the guy told us that something was wrong with the tranny. Well once we unloaded it I tried to get it through all the gears and it'll go into 1st and 2nd but won't go in 3rd or 4th and you can't even move the shifter over to 5th or reverse. So I started it up and put it in first and it acts like its driving in a high gear in either 1st or 2nd. I took the shifter out thinking that the ball my be worn and used a screwdriver to try and get all the gears, no luck there. So I was thinking maybe its a fork problem but I'm not sure I don't have much knowledge on transmissions, so if anyone here could help me out with this problem it would be appreciated because I would like to get this tranny working so I wouldn't have to get another one to put in there.
