Default Truck doesn't stay in park

If my truck is in park and there is any sort of slant is rolls and makes a clunking sound. The truck also doesn't start every now and then because it is not in park the whole way and I have to start it in neutral. Could it be the shifter cable causing this or would it be the parking pawl?

Have had the same problem. Thought the same thing with the cable, maybe stretched, not the case. Shifting into park one day a screw fell out from under the dash and the shift handle wouldn't move at all. There are 2 screws under the dash that hook the shift lever to the cable. After diggin around for an hour found both had loosened and one broke off. This should fix your issue. Hope it helps.

Sounds like your parking pawl is either broken or its not catching.

That's why whenever I park any car I use the emergency brake first then put it I park, so it doesn't stress the pawl.

Check the shift rod bolts at the end it's more common then you think my truck did it also when it was an auto.
