Ok hold on.. u got your transmission reverse band fixed for $200???? WTF.
Mine went out like 2 years ago.. was backing into a parking spot, same thing, heard a bang and it quit going, it just seemed to be in neutral.....i was told it was the reverse band and needed to rebuild my transmission. Anyway i drove the truck from May til November with no reverse... but i only put on about 4K miles... i have a motorcycle so i drove that alot, rain or shine...(so reverse went out at about 128K, got it fixed at about 132K)
Anyway, it cost me just over $1800. Took me all summer to save up, even got a second job(part-time) to help.
The guys shop was highly recommended, 3 people i work with have gone to this shop for transmission work.
But i did go to 4 shops for quotes and ideas. One guy wanted to stick in a rebuilt for $2500... i was like no way. Another shop wanted $1500 for a used transmission and then $500 install fee.
So the shop i went to, Hofman Transmission, about 28 miles away from me, he quoted me at $1700 to rebuild my transmission. He rebuilt it and used a heavy duty aftermarket clutch stuff and made some changes to make it better shifting...its been running great now, with about 14K on it 2 years..my total was just over $1800, so he wasn't too far off from his quote...and he even gave me a 2 year warranty, and also said if it fails after that warranty, he will rebuild it for 1/2 the price, cuz he stands by his work!
But to have your's done for only $200.... i feel ripped off now.
Here are some pics, i asked him to snap a few of it all while he was working on it.
Theres A CRAP LOAD of parts in an automatic transmission!
I have no clue what all is in these pics, or whats going on, i know nothing about auto transmissions...
